Feb 2017 - Role Filled

Director of Youth Innovation

St Catherine's College Inc.

We are looking for a superstar to be our Director of Youth Innovation! Your role will be to lead Bloom, a flagship program of St Catherine’s College. Bloom’s mission is to develop the enterprising skills that young Western Australians need for careers of the future. Bloom was founded in April 2013 by three university students and has grown to provide educational programs to almost 5,000 young people and support 50 young entrepreneurs with co-working space, mentors and more.

Your goal will be to encourage and support more (hopefully many more) young Western Australians to get involved in entrepreneurship and innovation. You will report directly to Fiona Crowe, CEO of St Catherine’s College and an Advisory Board chaired by Peter Rossdeutscher, experienced tech entrepreneur and director. We love this structure - we think it provides an ideal mix of a supportive, experienced organisation and a nimble, impactful social enterprise.

We are very proud that Bloom is a youth-run organisation. We have an awesome team of 40 student volunteers that work across our core organisation and Bloom UWA, Bloom Curtin, and Code WA, our community for young developers. At a high-level Bloom works in four teams: Growth, Development, Community and Operations. Each of these teams is run by an experienced student volunteer who dedicates 10-15 hours of their time each week. You will work closely with them to make sure Bloom is having the most impact we possibly can.

What will you get to do with Bloom? As a starting point, you will:

  • Work closely with the Bloom Volunteer Team and College Leadership to deliver our core activities (educational events, co-working space, mentoring program, and more) and manage our relationships with our external stakeholders

  • Work with Bloom’s Advisory Board to set our vision for performance and growth, develop and support Bloom’s systems and processes for impact measurement, and establish the long-term financial sustainability of Bloom

  • Represent Bloom at events and in the broader entrepreneurial and education ecosystem and advocate for entrepreneurial and innovative young Western Australians

  • Amplify Bloom’s activities through the College to ensure the residents are actively engaged in the program and ensure the strategic development of Bloom remains a unique selling point for St Catherine’s College

The person we are looking for:

  • Is a systems-level thinker - you thrive working across corporate, government and social sectors; you seek out opportunities to build the capacity of ecosystems; you can focus on what needs to be achieved and you want to collaborate with others to achieve it

  • Is passionate and curious - you love education; you read blogs, news sites etc. because it is fun, not because you have to; you are fascinated by what the world might look like in 10 years and how you can contribute to making it a better place

  • Is highly motivated and thrives in a fast moving, unstructured environment - you love working at a million miles an hour; you show initiative and don’t need (or want) someone to tell you what to do all the time

  • Is humble and helpful - you have been described as a coach or a mentor; you like working with young, energetic and enthusiastic people; you build long lasting relationships

In terms of your background, it is likely that you have 2-7 years’ experience and have worked in one of these environments before:

  • A startup or social enterprise. If you have led one, even better!

  • An investment group or philanthropic fund, preferably focused on the education and community sectors

  • An advisory business such as a consulting firm, law firm or investment bank

And finally, here are the nitty-gritty specifics of the role:

  • Full-time, permanent position

  • $70-80k p.a. remuneration

  • Starting in early February 2017

  • Expected commitment of three years

So, what happens after you spend your three years with us? That is entirely up to you but we will do our best to help you figure it out. Maybe you will join a Bloom startup, launch your own social enterprise, or you might even love the role so much you will want to turn this phenomenal leadership experience into a career!

Think this role describes you? Get in touch!

Please address your application to Fiona Crowe and send to jobs@bloom.org.au. Include as much info as possible to help us get to know you. This might include a resume, a cover letter, your LinkedIn profile, your personal blog, Twitter account, Snapchat etc. - whatever represents you best. Don’t worry about editing your web presence - we want to meet the real you!

We can’t wait to meet you,

Mark Shelton - Founder, Bloom
Peter Rossdeutscher - Chair, Bloom
& Fiona Crowe - CEO, St Catherine’s College

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, mature age workers and same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse people.
